Denmark consists of the peninsula Jutland and about 470 small and large islands. One can cross from one island to the next over bridges or with ferry boats. Heath land, birches woods, lakes and fiords are characteristic for the country. It is certainly known for its shore, too: The smallest Scandinavian country offers 7313 km of coastline. One some of the beaches where the sand is firm (e.g. Jutland) one is allowed to ride a motorbike on.

One can also discover many things right and left of the extended road network: Ancient wind mills or newer wind power mills, castles, masters houses and splendid parks, Legoland (also for big children!) or open-air museums, in which (for the most part only during the summer) the Viking times live up anew.

Copenhagen is a vibrating capital, but also offers some cozy corners.

Greenland and the Faeroe belong to Denmark formally, but they have their own administrations. Either island group is no classical destination for motor bikers.

Smørrebrød (bread with sausage, fish or cheese) as well as seafood and fish are specialties of the Danish kitchen. Fresh berries and mushrooms are popular during the summer and autumn. Danes love sweets: Puff pastry with cream filling and sugar icing, cream ice, Lakritz, peppermint pastilles. How about a trip to Dropskøgerei? There one can watch a confectioner producing candy.

Danish beverages have made a name outside of the country, too: For example beers like Carlsberg and Tuborg or Aquavit. But be careful! Alcohol is very expensive.

Some geography:
The Kingdom of Denmark is 43,000 square kilometers wide, which is without Greenland. The statistics are increase by an additional 2.2 million square kilometers if one includes this huge island.
Denmark has 5.3 million inhabitants (Greenland 57,000). Language of the country is Danish, in Northern Schleßwig it is German. Minority languages are spoken at Färöern and Greenland. Protestantism is the predominant religion.
On the mainland the Danes celebrate their national holiday on June 5th; outside it is celebrated on April16th (birthday of Queen Margaret).
