Finland - that are woods, water and an incredible peace. And, there is something which nobody knows: Finland has plenty of islands. Up to 80,000 islands are located offshore. About 188,000 lakes can be found on the mainland (there are close to 100,000 islands there). And they all sparkle underneath the blue sky. In between one finds a good extended road network. Pure recreation awaits the traveler to the right and to the left.
The thick woods clear only in north, but there at Lapland do the little dwarf birches fascinate the visitors. Here it does not become completely dark during the time of the midnight sun, from June until the middle of July. The sun shines for hours in the south as well, it stays light out for about 19 hours.

On a culinary level the Finns are formed by what the country side offers them: Fish in all variations and meat from reindeers. Typical specialties are Kalakukko (rye dough-pockets with fish- and porkpie filling) and Karjalan Piirakka (Pirogues filled with rice pudding or potatoes). Besides the well known and certainly great tasting Finnish vodka we like to recommend liqueurs such as Mesimarja (arctic raspberry), Lakka (Molte berry) and Polar (cranberry). Liquors will be only sold to persons above 19 years of age.

Some geography:
Finland is 338,000 square miles wide. 70 % of it is covered with wood, 10 % with water. In the "remainder" of the land live about 5 million inhabitants.
The language of the country is Finnish, minorities speak Swedish and Samisch. The majority of the Finns are Protestants. The Finns celebrate their national holiday on December 6th. On that day in 1917 they became independent.
