There is nothing better than to experience first hand how to live like “God in France.” As a guest one soon learns to get along fine with the relaxed ways Frenchmen go about their day. And their country offers just a little of everything:
The Alsace attracts visitors with small wine villages, in the Alps and Pyrenees and also with breath taking mountain passes. Traveling along the Loire-valley with its many royal castles one becomes engrossed with France’s history. Paris is famous for the Eiffel-tower, Louvre or Arc d’Triumph and of course for its great many street cafes.
We would definitely like to recommend springtime for tours along the Côte d’Azur. During high season most Mediterranean cities are extremely crowded. The hinterland on the other hand is much more relaxed. Between the Mediterranean and Atlantic Sea precious country sides tempt to be discovered. For example the Provence displays fragrant fields of lavender. Or the oldest caves paintings of mankind along the rivers Dordogne and Vézre in Perigord.
A rather wild France can be found in the Bretagne. Here, where Asterix and Obelix were at home, one still finds the most "Hinkel stones" of the country. Heading towards the south the Atlantic shore offers hundreds of kilometers of fine dunes and shoreline.
Besides the highlights of the country side France offers of course also culinary enjoyments. Fresh vegetables and fruits, cheese and butter are purchased in every bistro and restaurant. Believing General de Gaulle, France has 365 different types of cheese. There are so many more varieties to be discovered besides Camembert, Brie or Roquefort.
Typical French cuisines are Tournedos (little Steaks at bacon stripes), Béarnaise (delicious sauce from eggs) and Ratatouille (zucchinis, eggplants, tomatoes, garlic at olive oil). In the north of France the menu displays seafood above all. Alsace-Lorraine is famous for its Choucroute (Sauerkraut) and Tarte Flambée (onion cake). Together with these tasty foods Frenchmen like to drink wine and it best comes from French regions: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire, Rhône, Champagne …
Some geography:
France spreads over an area of close to 550,000 square kilometers (without its oversea-departments) and is therefore the largest country in Europe. The country has 61 million inhabitants. French is the language of the country. The majority of the Frenchmen belong to the Roman-Catholic church. Due to the many immigrants the Islam gains influence: 5 million humans are Moslems. |
