Tunisia has much more to offer than just sun, sand beaches and a fight at the all-inclusive-buffet. Apart from the Mediterranean coast one can enjoy woods, deep valleys, steep mountains and desert. After a wonderful ride can one relax while walking through traditional Souks, archaeological excavation places, vineyards and olive groves.

The mountainous country in the north of Tunisia and Carthage, the city of ruins close to Tunis, are given special emphasis here. From there the Phoenicians ruled the western part of the Mediterranean Sea. Rome took over the power in146 BC and called its new province "Africa". Here one can follow first Christian traces. Kairouan is the eldest Islamic town in North Africa. The Muslims adore it as holy. It is forth in line with Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem.

Between the shore region and the desert in the south lies the Dahar-mountain range. Riding towards this area one will discover fascinating surroundings: The villages and the grottoes built into the rocks by the Berber who live here. And Tunisia is the country where one can learn best how to ride through sand and enjoy it.

If you are curious about native cookery, you should taste dishes like Tajine (lamb stew), Dorade (sea bream) or Brik (dough bags filled with egg). At any rate you will enjoy the large variety of fresh spices. And for dessert? Turkish coffee, peppermint tea with pine nuts, native wine and liqueurs like Boukha (made from figs) or Thibarine (dates). Couscous is the national dish in Tunesia.
